Ar Pistol Mods - There are many options for customizing your AR-15 to your needs - this firearms expert details some of the options
The AR-15 rifle in its many forms is the default long gun for law enforcement. It is capable of dealing with the various threats that today's police officers face. Part of the reason AR is so versatile is its modularity. The only part that is necessarily universal on this rifle is the lower receiver and some of its internals. In addition, almost every part of the rifle can be customized to suit department purchases or individual needs.

There are three accessories or modifications that are considered absolutely necessary on a law enforcement carbine: the light, the scope, and the sling. There are certainly other improvements that could be helpful, but these three are essential in my opinion. We'll start by looking at the different options for these three staples, then look for some accessories that have the ability to improve the performance of both the officer and his carbine.

This is the golden age of tactical gear. A good example of this is the high quality powerful weapon lights (VML) available on the market. The most common manufacturers of VML used in law enforcement pistols and rifles are Streamlight and Surefire. Both of these companies have so many options between them, I guarantee you will find something that fits your needs. There is no excuse not to have a light on your police handgun or long gun.
While the AR's iron sights make for a perfectly acceptable sighting system, the optics make the AR-15 less effective. Today, there is little reason not to add some form of optics. The most common choice of AR optics are simple Red Dot/Holographic Sights (RDS). Most law enforcement encounters are close-quarters and RDS is a quick opportunity to spot them. A possible RDS upgrade is a magnifier with a sideshift like this EOTech one. This combination gives the officer the best of both worlds (close-up and zoom for quick aiming for long shots) with a simple twist of the magnifier.
I've seen newer officers buy three-point slings, then single-point slings, and finally settle on traditional two-point slings. In fact, I saw it more often. I always encourage new officers to start and finish with a high-quality two-point harness, because that's where they'll end up anyway. Two-point harnesses will do everything an officer needs to do without the complications of the other two systems.
There is one particular problem I see with straps that I think doesn't get enough attention. The two-point harness is large enough to fit over an officer wearing body armor, as well as strapping everything in the patrol vehicle when you're in a hurry. Okay, maybe not everything, but when I'm in a rush I have a 100% chance of grabbing something. The solution to this is simple. For this problem I like high quality rubber bands commonly called "Ranger Bands". Pass the ribbon through the strap and fold it into a ribbon. When you need it, thanks to a soft pull, the strap is extended and ready to go.

Many departments and individual officers wisely choose short-barreled AR-style rifles with suppressors for close range work. Serious inner ear injuries have been reported by officers who were forced to fire an AR carbine without pressure in a confined space. It doesn't happen every time, but it happens often enough that the oppressor has a good idea. When it comes to suppressors, Surefire makes one of the better systems out there.
Among the many areas where customizing an AR-15 can be useful are grips, stocks, and rails. Everyone is built a little differently and it's essential that your AR fits you. Handrails, vertical and inclined front handrails and handrails can help. Rail parts allow you to add lights and lasers to your rifle.
One area where I see officers trying to underestimate is ammunition. Cheap ammo is the main source of the function and zero problems we see at the range. There is no need to buy the right quality ammunition for practice and qualification, but there is no reason to buy the cheapest on the market either. I have had good luck training and qualifying with a Federal/US Eagle and duty with a Federal or Ammo Speer. I especially like the Federal HST and Speer Gold dot in any caliber offered. Both of these rounds have consistently proven themselves in real-world encounters for decades. Another less common accessory is spare parts. It's a good idea to have a basic set of backgrounds available.
As you can see, I'm a big fan of the AR-15 cab for law enforcement. The biggest reason is its adaptability and modularity. We see a lot of people fighting with shotguns and pistols, but almost anyone can shoot a well-equipped and equipped AR-15. If you're one of the cops who hasn't gotten into the AR field yet, I encourage you to. With the right equipment and a little practice, you'll have one of the most effective force tools available to law enforcement today.
Considering Building An Ar 15 Pistol? Here's The 411
Warren Wilson is a police lieutenant in Enid, Oklahoma. He is a former SWAT team leader, current firearms instructor and author. He has been a full-time law enforcement officer since 1996. The National Firearms Act, commonly known as the NFA, is the law that limits most of what we are allowed to own, including our beloved AR-15s. The AR pistol was created to be an alternative to the SBR, still on the right (and cheaper) side of the law.
We'll get into that more, as well as better understand what an AR gun is, why
It seems a little strange that an AR-15 could be a handgun. AR-15 stands for AR Armalite Rifle, after all. Most setups fire a single rifle round, and even the smallest ARs are much larger than a pistol.
The AR-15 pistol is a classification that exists because of some stupid US gun laws and definitions. An AR pistol cannot have a stock, but it can have a hollow, exposed buffer barrel. Another no-no is a vertical grip, but an angled grip like the Magpul AFG is legit.
Breaking: Nfa Registration To Be Required For Pistol Braces?
AR-15 pistols can have as many barrels as you want. Personally, I have an AR-15 pistol with a 7.5 inch barrel, and as ridiculous as it is, it's a lot of fun.
In recent years, the popularity of the AR-15 pistol has grown significantly. This growth is mainly related to the creation of stabilizing prostheses. Stabilizer straps have turned a shiny, heavy, and awkward gun into a stable weapon that is comfortable to shoot.
We won't go into the NFA too much, but the relevant part of this article is the law that requires rifles to have 16 inch barrels, otherwise the NFA regulates them.
So if you wanted an AR-15 with a 7.5 inch barrel, you would have to pay the stamp duty, apply for a permit and wait 3 to 6 months for approval. Once approved, you will own an SBR. Or you can buy an AR pistol and skip all that.
Ar 15 Basic Upgrades
There are many other reasons you might want an AR pistol besides the tax stamp.
First, you may live in a state that bans SBRs entirely, regardless of federal regulations. An AR pistol may be your only option.
An AR pistol is treated and regulated like a pistol. This classification of a gun can mean that it is legal to carry it in different ways.
For example, some states require long guns to be stored in an unloaded vehicle or even in the trunk or locked box. An AR pistol is a pistol, not a long gun; maybe it could be legal to carry it concealed in the vehicle and ready for immediate use.
Tailor Made Ars: Choosing The Best Ar 15 Mods
In my situation, if I technically felt it necessary, I could throw my AR pistol in a bag and carry it legally concealed. While this isn't necessary, in the event of a hurricane or other bug situation, you may want some extra firepower.
AR-15 pistols require much less trouble than SBRs and, with a stock, make excellent home defense firearms.
They can be ultra-small and incredibly easy to maneuver in and out of buildings, plus you can attach a can and still have a smaller overall platform than a regular rifle.
When I started thinking about AR-15 pistols I could suggest to your guys, I realized there are too many. To make it easy, I've chosen eight tops in three different budget categories. I hope you find one or two on the list that you like.
