If you are new to the Glock, you may be dismayed that no Glock model has an external safety device such as a grip or thumb safety.

The trigger safety is a small lever that prevents the trigger from being pulled unless it is used directly and with the correct amount of pressure. It's easy if it's your trigger finger, but harder if it's something else.

The firing pin safety prevents the firing pin from moving forward unless the trigger is pulled. If the trigger is not pulled, the striker cannot physically move.

Finally, the drop guard ensures that even if all else fails, the firing pin cannot strike the cartridge with enough force to trigger it. But when the trigger is pulled, it always does.

When you think of Glock, it's probably one of the two that comes to mind.

There is still room in the 9mm, the grip is a bit longer, the barrel is a bit longer and the whole thing has a bit more meat on the bone.

Designed as a full size work/service pistol, it remains an excellent weapon for EDC CCW and home defense.

And when it comes to defending your home, the extra size adds up, the longer grip gives 2 more shots in regular magazines, and the whole gun shoots better.

From the Armalite to the AR-15, Glock has forced more innovations than any other manufacturer, but they haven't always been at the forefront.

When Sig Sauer released the P365 in its compact size, which holds 10+1 shots, Glock was officially behind for the first time in a long time.

Best Upgrades For Glocks

Shortly after Glock updated their old G43 with the G43X and gave us a Glock made subcompact in 9mm capacity 10+1.

Slightly larger than the G43, the G43X is more than worth the small extra size that increases the number of rounds.

If you were lucky, older 1911s only had 7+1 or 8+1, the G21 packed 13+1 rounds of .45 ACP.

Glock G43x Subcompact Semi Auto Pistol

Older 1911s were rated at about 900 average rounds between stops, while the Glock (depending on model and test event) was rated at about 2,500 MRBS.

If you want more power, the 10mm automatic is a great choice. With twice the power of the 9mm, the 10mm is an average small cartridge.

The Glock 20 gives you 15+1 10mm cartridges, but the whole gun has a very G17 feel. It's impressive to say the least.

While some magnum caliber guns have a tendency to kill themselves, the G20 is one of the few that can handle a loaded round for long periods of time.

Unfortunately, Glock says the G20 will not be upgraded to a Gen 5 model - but the Gen 4 guns are still in production.

If I had to choose one gun as the perfect woods pistol to defend yourself against all your hits, the Glock 20 would be my only choice.

Basically a G19 but in .40 Smith & Wesson. If you are not familiar with .40 S&W, this is a great round that we have a lot of information on.

The .40 S&W has been very popular in police departments for nearly 2 decades, as it was invented out of the FBI's need for a slightly less powerful cartridge, but still more powerful than the 9mm.

However, the 9mm has undergone a major transformation in recent years due to improved bullet design.

The .40 S&W is still a stout round with power. The G23's 13+1 capacity is a good ammo to have in hand when you need it.

Chambered in .380 ACP, it is the smallest and lightest Glock that is still primarily a defensive firearm.

Although some say the .380 ACP is too small, it is the smallest I recommend. I've had a .380 ACP for years and still use it when I need something smaller.

Glock 19x [review]: A 9mm To Be Reckoned With

The G42 is just that, only very small. With a 6+1 capacity and a loaded weight of less than 1 pound, this is a really nice little pistol.

If you want the reliability of a Glock but are too small for an EDC CCW, this is a great choice.

Fairly new to the market, it's an exact clone of the G19 - except it's chambered in .22 LR.

The first run of the G44 was not great and will go down in history as one of Glock's only failures at launch. The G44 didn't start well because the shocks were broken.

But a few months later and Glock straightened things out and the reviews have been excellent ever since.

This is a great training tool for anyone who owns a G19. Now you can shoot and practice with the same gun as a carry gun, but shoot ammo that costs a fraction of the price.

It's also perfect for training new shooters who need a smaller caliber but plan to get a real Glock soon.

While this may not be entirely true, it will fire a much wider range of ammo than any other .22 LR pistol on the market.

If the Glock 19 is the perfect jean, the G48 is the skinny jean. For some of you, you are already in love. For the rest of us... yes.

The G48 is chambered in 9mm and is basically the same size as the Glock 19, making it a "thinned down" version of the G19.

The G19 is 1.34 inches thick, while the G48 is just 1.10 inches. Oddly, the G48's barrel is 0.15 inches longer than the G19's 4.17.

Still, the good thing about the Glock is that there really isn't a bad option in the lineup.

Some may be more useful to you than others, but they all work and all have the legendary Glock quality.
